Who's That Girl

Who's That Girl? ME! Joining all my blogger friends who are posting past Halloween pictures, I decided to use one that was taken about 8 years ago?

Who is that girl? This girl was working part time in the Tax Collector's Office during October and November. I was in between jobs having gotten "burned out" working as a legal secretary. I learned one thing about working for the county, Holidays were celebrated, this I did not know, I am not that big on Halloween or dressing up. I did however dress up with the girls a few times and when my nieces and nephews that are now grown were little I decorated my house for them, not now. Someone has to get that stuff out, put it out, take it up, and get ready for Christmas. Too much work.

Growing up, we never decorated for Halloween, because my mother was the strict Baptist, we were allowed to trick or treat, I think my dad wanted the candy because mother hardly ever bought candy and in her mind as long as we dressed up as Strawberry Shortcake (me), Charlie Brown (Andy) and Robin (batman Scottie) we were not portraying the evil spirits, it was okay. Okay, so I don't buy candy either one of her traits I guess I picked up on. Anyway I remember my dad (We lived in Jonesboro, Arkansas at this time) laying on the floor with us, mounding up our loot in the middle of the den floor and telling us that he had to go through every piece of candy to make sure they were safe. We sat patiently (really we did, we were good kids, not hyper or smart mouthy) waiting and watching. The pile became three even piles of candy and finally watching "The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" we got to eat some of that candy. It was like Candy Heaven. Laying in the floor with my brothers and dad "chomping down"(a direct quote from Andy) on some candy. This is my favorite childhood memory from Halloween.

My least favorite from my childhood would be the first Halloween after we moved back to Wynne, around 1982. I got to go trick or treating with my cousin Tracy Brawner. She and I were clowns. One of our parents bought us clown makeup and we slathered thickly on our faces. We were awesome. By the time we made all the rounds, our last stop was Aunt Dorothy Brawner's house , (Tracy's Grandmother). The makeup had dried and was like a mask. I couldn't blink. Aunt Dorothy told us to hurry and wash that stuff off. It really was not that simple. It was like taking sand and scrubbing your face. My dad came and picked me up because I was crying. I went to school with makeup on my face for several days, I thought it would be in my eyebrows for the rest of my life. Seriously. It was SO NOT funny then, it might be a little funny now, except for, I CAN STILL FEEL THE PAIN. To this day, I have never bought face paint at Halloween. I have always used my regular makeup on the girls. I couldn't bear the thought of the the girls faces drying up like that!

Okay, now Sandy and Carissa will want to know HOW DOES SHE REMEMBER ALL THAT? Ladies, this would be my only 2 memories of Halloween as a kid. So, its kind of like, I study, with the way my memory seems to be headed south without me...I need to study...there might be a test someday...

CHALLENGE: (or poor attempt to get more than 4 comments) I want to hear your Halloween stories...not about your kids, I do love all your kids, I want to hear about your CHILDHOOD memories of Halloween....leave them in my COMMENTS or on your blog, whichever....

And if I get more than the 5 comments (from 5 different people) I'll dig out my 1981 Halloween picture and maybe even one of Tim and I from highschool...STOP LAUGHING, I can hear you. I know....ooo she's scaring us now...

You have TIM Halloween photos. I am soo going to get you 5 comments...

I have a photo when I was a ghost I think? Sheesh, no real specific memeories? We were allowed to trick or treat all over our tiny town all by ourselves and I almost have a memory about an old lady talking to us and asking if we wanted some 'bubadum' in our treat bags? I think she meant bubblegum!

Some great memories you have. My memory is of those plastic masks, I'm dating myself here I'm sure. I was Sleeping Beauty or some princess with those rigid plastic masks with the elastic around the back of the head. I remember how my face would sweat and the entire inside would be sopping wet. That always felt good when the temp was in the 50's!!! Fun stuff :) Guess we get to see those pics now :)
